David Fifita Injury 2023

Titans star Fifita requires surgery after injury to pectoral muscle

Gold Coast facing lengthy spell without forward

Fifita set to go under the knife

Gold Coast Titans star David Fifita requires surgery after suffering a grade six tear of his pectoral muscle in the Titans’ trial game against North Queensland on Saturday night.

The Titans confirmed on Sunday that Fifita will go under the knife this week, with the club revealing the 22-year-old is expected to miss between 12 and 16 weeks of football.

The news is a major blow for the Titans, who were already set to be without Fifita for the first two rounds of the season due to a suspension.

Fifita’s absence is likely to see Jai Arrow start at lock for the Titans in their season-opener against the St George Illawarra Dragons on March 3.

The Titans are also sweating on the fitness of Jamal Fogarty, who has a hand injury, and AJ Brimson, who is dealing with a hamstring problem.

The Titans will be hoping to have Fifita back in time for their Round 14 clash with the Sydney Roosters on July 1.

Conclusion

The loss of Fifita is a major setback for the Titans, who are hoping to improve on their disappointing 12th-place finish in 2023.

With Fifita out for an extended period of time, the Titans will need other players to step up if they are to make a push for the finals in 2024.
