Volunteers Win Season Opener Against Evansville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Volunteers opened their 2024 season with an 11-6 victory over the Evansville Purple Aces on Tuesday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. Tennessee (1-0) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, scoring three runs in the first inning and two more in the second. Evansville (0-1) rallied for three runs in the fifth inning, but the Volunteers answered right back with four runs in the sixth to put the game away.

Junior outfielder Drew Gilbert led the way for Tennessee at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, and three RBIs. Sophomore infielder Liam Spence also had a big night, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Senior pitcher Chase Dollander earned the win for the Volunteers, allowing three runs on six hits in five innings of work. He struck out eight batters and walked two.

The Volunteers will be back in action on Friday night when they host the Georgia Bulldogs (0-0) in the first game of a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
